Also I think you should be able to run glxinfo and get something like the
following, specifically looking for the llvmpipe and core profile version.

$ export GALLIUM_DRIVER=llvmpipe
$ glxinfo | grep "^OpenGL \(renderer\|core profile version\|vendor\)"
OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.8, 256 bits)
OpenGL core profile version string: 3.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 13.0.1 (git-f2f487e)
