It can take a long time to get a fix without A-GPS, which may or may not
be active here.  The first thing I would do is wait longer (10 minutes?)
before giving up.  Also, are you able to test the same device under
Windows, to see if the GPS there actually works and to establish a
baseline for time-to-fix?
