It seems likely that my former colleague at Itron, Tyler Smith, got it working somehow but I understand he is off to other things now.
Verizon had explained their IMS architecture to us some time ago. According to that discussion, text messaging for LTE now happens exclusively over IPv6 on the VZWIMS APN.
No old-school SMS available now but for the trouble I believe you get multipart messages with much longer messages possible.
This functionality would all be really great for M2M applications, my area of interest.
Another capability needed is a “call home” message to establish IP connectivity with a remote cellular device when direct mobile termination isn’t possible.
We have to make this work somehow over here so I will post back with our findings if we are able to make any progress. I think it may require a bit of new plumbing.
Oops, didn’t mean to hijack your MC74xx thread. I think maybe I am now required to obtain one to make good. Wonder if they have passed muster with Verizon certification gods yet..
