latest openwrt sdk error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.36) were not met

On openwrt latest sdk these instructions no longer succeed
https://bitbucket.org/aleksander0m/modemmanager-openwrt, because libmbin
won't compile.

make -j1 V=s package/libmbim/{clean,compile,install}

Produces

configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.36) were not met:

No package 'glib-2.0' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.


This also happens on lede-sdk-17.01.4.

Any ideas?
