Ah, thanks for the reminder.  I'd forgotten about that entirely.

I believe the conclusion was to use

/org/mpris/MediaPlayer2/TrackList/NoTrack

to indicate "no track" in the TrackList interface, and say that people 
should not use any paths starting "/org/mpris/" unless part of MPRIS 
explicitly says otherwise.
