Can you try a more recent version of the kernel module (ideally nouveau-git
[1])

Here is a workaround that should help, but it will remove acceleration
* Use "nouveau.noaccel=1" as a kernel parameter
** Or "noaccel=1" if you are using modprobe to load nouveau

Use "$cat /sys/module/nouveau/parameters/noaccel" to confirm if the parameter
has been passed correctly

It seems your issue could be similar to bug 32494
