Does this still happen with the latest kernel/xf86-video-nouveau/mesa? Are you
using a compositor?

I also have a NV34 and haven't seen that particular behavior. (But it does hang
hard when I run chromium/firefox on it, so not all is well.) Can you provide
detailed steps to reproducing it (e.g. run program X sized Y, observe Z)
