Yes, I think that the Quickstarter functionality is included in the OOo module
/opt/openoffice.org3/basis-link/program/libqstart_gtklx.so. It uses GNOME
code.

It would be nice create a KDE variant and we are still looking for a
volunteer. Would you like to help with this?

Well, there exists a standalone applet for KDE but I am not sure how it works.
You might find it at http://segfaultskde.berlios.de/index.php?content=oooqs2.
I have played with the older version for OOo-1.1.x many years ago and it had
many troubles. I think that a QT port of the libqstart_*.so would be a better
solution if anyone implements it.

Otherwise tor is correct, the main purpose of the module/applet is too keep
OOo running on background. The side effect is that it creates an icon and
menu in the systray.
