I have solved this issue myself.

I found that after “sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-openchrome” command, it will replace your original X server to old 1.11 version on Ubuntu 12.04.

And under /usr/bin directory, X soft link is lost. So you need add soft link to Xorg for X with “ln” command.

After that, you also need give “744” to your .Xauthority file which will prevent you enter into desktop.

After those two changes, right now I can enter into desktop with latest UMS git driver.

Next step, as I said, I will try KMS driver for OpenChrome.

Hi Kevin,

 

         Finally, I got my first VIA board-“C7+VX900” after long period waiting!!! Then I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on that board and see the board can be booted up with VGA port(The board has a HDMI port + VGA port)

         Then I check the Xorg.0.log file and see OpenChrome driver is loaded and VX900 is recognized. That is good.

         Then I am trying to use your guide file below to build the debug version driver:

         And after I did the operation:

                   “sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-openchrome”

    I found it does a lot of removal and installation. Then I can build the latest git DDX driver and install it to replace the old xxx.so drivers.

But unfortunately, after the reboot, I found the Ubuntu 12.04 can’t enter into the graphics mode again. Then I check the Xorg.0.log again and found the X server is changed from 1.15 to 1.11 with that operation. So have you met same issue before and how did you deal with that?

Just to let you know, OpenChrome project has been without a maintainer for many
months.
This is why you did not get a response.
I recently obtained a commit privilege, and have already made several commits.

It may not be necessary since you already know how to compile the device
driver, but just included the location of it for your reference.
I can say that your bug appears similar to a newer bug that got reported
recently.

It will be nice if you can try the latest OpenChrome master branch code without
your LCD related workaround, in order to see what happens.
In general, I am inclined to reduce the usage of the predefined device table
moving forward.
