Hm!  I hoped this would fix the black-screen problem.  In a way... it does:
X simply hangs at startup and never tries to set the screen, so the monitor
doesn't lose signal.  See the attached log.

I haven't tried any openchrome versions recently, so I don't know when
this hanging started.  I can bisect if you want me to.
