Xorg.0.log compiled 0.6 on debian 9.3 got out of range

I checked out the openchrome-0.6 tag and compiled it, copied the openchrome.la
and openchrome.so to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers directory and it didn't
work.    I got the "out of range" message on my Dell P991.  This was under
Debian 9.3.

I was thinking that version 0.6 would work since that was the version that
worked under knoppix8.1.

Maybe I'll try copying the xorg conf file from knoppix8.1 over to debian 9.3
and see if that makes a difference.
