<pre>Ok I don't think it's the DDC, because I tried an old Dell Ultrascan P991 CRT
monitor and got the same blank results.
One thing I did notice with the old CRT was a brief flash of color which looked
like what should be displaying but super skewed. It must be displaying at a
frequency that the monitor can't handle and it put up a message saying "out of
range" just like my LCD monitor did.
I thought I'd try to use the via_reg_tool to see what it said:
"sudo ./via_reg_tool -m" while the console text is active said:

and if I wanted to see what the graphics mode would be I tried:
"sleep 5; sudo ./via_reg_tool -m" and then hit CTRL+ALT+F7 to get into the
graphics mode:

I also tried the -p option while I was in console mode (I forgot to try it in
graphics mode with a sleep command).
