HELP! Got lost, and having trouble installing the DRI kernel module
Im running FC4 and Ive tried to install the unichrome stuff from the RPMS at http://washington.kelkoo.net/epia/, but the kernel module did not seem to work, and I think I know why.
I started this installation a while ago and I cant remember the steps I took to install the kernel originally, nor can I find the guide I followed (trust me Ive nearly torn my hair out trying to find a bookmark or something), but for some reason my kernel is called 2.6.11-custom rather than the usual FC4 kernel name. Im pretty sure that the RPMs I installed for the kernel module have simply installed the module into the directory for the plain FC4 kernel, so they are not loaded by this bizarre custom kernel.
So now I am absolutely at a loss as to how to proceed. The website where I got the RPMs suggests rebuidling the RPM from the SRPM, but when I try that it complains about not having a kernel-devel = 2.6.11-custom???? I also thought about compiling it from original source but there are 2 reasons I dont want to try this 1) I dont think Ive got a usable kernel source tree (like I said, I cant really remeber the steps I took to get here) I can compile it against and 2) I really dont want to mix versions. I'd rather use the RPM if I can. On one of my previous attempts and installing the unichrome stuff on gentoo, I mixed ebuilds, RPMs and hand compiled stuff, and it just didn't fit together!
I dont really remember, but I think the 2.6.11-custom may have come about because I wanted some custom kernel options in the first place, plus I think its patched with some IVTV stuff.
Can anyone suggest how I might proceed? Please PLEASE dont say Ive got to start again with the kernel. Believe it or not its taken me 18 months to get this far, and Ive had very little sucess along the road!
Thanks very much ()
