Check with 'dmesg | grep drm'.

Sounds like your distro is still lacking some patches to Xorg.  This 
problem was fixed in Gentoo only recently, so you may have to wait 
a bit for it to be fixed in Archlinux.  Don't get however your 
hopes too far up: the K8M800 is known to lock up on many textures.
