Lucky.  See the last two paragraphs by Thomas at the end of:
http://wiki.openchrome.org/pipermail/openchrome-users/2006-May/001203.html

This means the 3D-openchrome driver isn't made for the *800 VIA 
chips, due to a lack of documentation and a maintainer.

You might try playing with this.  It won't solve anything, but the 
behaviour might change a bit.
