I can't speak for Ubuntu, but Fedora has only ever shipped the via
driver that is packaged upstream in xorg. The driver that is in xorg is
a mixture of Via/Unichrome/Openchrome code.
The xorg driver is falling far enough behind it is probably time to
start talking about how we are going to merge changes back upstream. I
would hold your breath this will happen anytime soon.
