Hello,

I am busy setting up a VIA SP8000 as a PVR.
Today I tested DVD playback with xine and noted that the CPU usage is
quite high, picture looks OK for now.

The box is running FC4 and I am using the xorg RPMs from
http://washington.kelkoo.net/epia/. (thanks for these!)
The kernel has AGP support, DRI support with VIA driver compiled in. All
stock 2.6.15.2 kernel.
In /var/log/Xorg.0.log I see all drivers being initialised OK and AGP
being used. Xine is set for xvmc and with lsof I see
/usr/X11R6/lib/libviaXvMCPro.so.1.0 being used.

Speeds:

(II) VIA(0): Benchmarking video copy. Less is better.
(--) VIA(0): Timed libc YUV420 copy... 3658309. Throughput: 129.8 MiB/s.
(--) VIA(0): Timed kernel YUV420 copy... 3705228. Throughput: 128.1 MiB/s.
(--) VIA(0): Timed SSE YUV420 copy... 2253985. Throughput: 210.6 MiB/s.
(--) VIA(0): Timed MMX YUV420 copy... 3967807. Throughput: 119.6 MiB/s.
(--) VIA(0): Ditch 3DNow! YUV420 copy... Not supported by CPU.
(--) VIA(0): Timed MMX2 YUV420 copy... 2285039. Throughput: 207.8 MiB/s.

I see no errors in the log. Still xine uses 80+% of CPU.

What could be wrong? (if at all?)

Kind regards,
Udo
