Dear all,

My acer 1362LMI is running ubuntu dapper. The provided via driver
(Xorg7.0, currently xorg-xserver-driver-via 33.2 ubuntu4) leads to a
"computer freeze" when 3D applications using textures are running
(egoboo, screen savers (matrix view, ...), tuxracer, ...).

This is a known bug http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5092

I decided to build the via driver according to the wiki (modular build +
direct rendering manager). The compilation went smoothly (kernel 2.15.22
k7) and I modified the xorg.conf to use the new driver:

Section "Files"
        ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
        ModulePath "/usr/local/lib/xorg/modules"

The computer still freezes when egoboo is run, but the screen saver
matrixview can be used. glxgears -printfps yields around 750 FPS with 16
bits color depth and 1024x768 res.

How can I be sure that the computer is using the newly build driver?
If the build driver is buggy, is there some news regarding a possible
fixing of that bug ? (can I fix the problem myself by compiling
something : latest mesa, kernel ...?)

Thank you for the work
