Comment:

 Removed all remnance of drm and via, did a completely new download and
 build and install (following the instructions on the wiki and using
 ./configure --prefix=/usr), still the same problem with Xine.  The
 command:
 xine -V xxmc filename.mpg --verbose > resolution-xxmc.log

 No accelerated IMDcT found (or something very close to that, I have to
 type this on a seperate machine) is output to the terminal.

 Attached are the 2 log files, 1 for 720p and 1 for 1080i.  Neither produce
 an image at all.
