Hi Xavier, sorry for my desappearing, but sure you would have imagined that 
somethings is gone wrong; and so is been ;)
I've follow all your hits, installed subversion and all the pakets you said 
me;
all is gone since near the end of "make install " . there it said that it 
didn't find the link for this task so it do nothing; after finished 
compilation without errors messages.
Restarting X, nothing change, and here I did a fool thing, because of i 
haven't seen message errors,other than my foolness I "revim" 
the /etc/Xorg.conf and rechange the driver device "fbdev" in "via", 
remenbering that first time I havn't had x running but the console there was
so i could redo the file and have again the x.
This time instead, ach :( nothing, all black; try to repair with distro dvd 
but I'm not been able to do that.
 here in Italy we say " All's gone in caw"

I'd reinstalled my box, 20 minuts with this machine (very quickly;) I've lost 
some data (but less and not important ) with the exclusion of the data for 
login the user list.
    Can You post me,please, that I haven't found the "lostpasswordlink" on 
the site ?

Apropos of my VN986, I think is possible that I haven't installed some of 
necessary but without dependancy with the other packets, because of Yast 
control them, i think.
When you'll have time, I'll like very much to have any other of your precious 
hits.
Thinking at you in a golden beach with all around golden girls ;) again I 
like to thank you for your prompt and usefull support and
remain with the hope of soon be able to switch from actually 1024 x 768 res. 
to the correct 1280 x 800 :) thinking too at a september rpm for the vn896 .
Yes, I know, I'm an optimistic guy !!!
