[Openchrome-users] Via just released a framebuffer driver

That's simply the via binary mpeg interface. They have never and probably will never release the sourcecode for it. It has been discussed many times in the past. It's also via only and only works with their version of mplayer and xine. A better solution is the implementation of xvmc that is compatible with other applications and works with several graphics cards.

(and apologies for top posting.. Email client sucks)

Subject: [Openchrome-users] Via just released a framebuffer driver

Hello friends,

I just saw at
http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.aspx?catid=28&threadid=77110 that
VIA released a frambuffer driver. It compiles and works with 2.6.21-rc4
an it's faster than vesafb on console. See the included readme.txt for
more information. Unfortunately there is a binary-only lib included
(/usr/src/linux/drivers/video/via/VIA-VMILIB/libddmpeg.so).

Isn't it possible to kick via's ass for this and force them to release
the sourcecode of it, too? Maybe they are breaking
someones license with this lib?

regards,
claas
