[Openchrome-users] CN700 and DRI, XvMC

(for some reason this never reached the list, trying again..)

Hi,

figured out now how to get Xv and DRI to work, and not even crash! In
openSUSE 10.3 at least.

The XvMC isn't quite working, at least not in Kaffeine, it complains
'Can't init new Video Driver xvmc'. Still something to do there... DVB-T
colors in Kaffeine look crap, too, but that's perhaps just the SyncMaster
931C monitor and too heavy mpeg2 decoding (kaffeine takes 70% cpu... XvMC
would be very very nice to get working...).

In any case the direct-rendering and crash solution was to add a coupld of
opensuse buildservice sites into YaST2 software repositories (xorg73,
kde3). Then I updated xorg from 7.2 to 7.3 (including Mesa to 7.01). I
updated KDE3.5 packages to newer versions as well. A kernel update from
2.6.22 to 2.6.23 was included, but I'm not sure how much this helped the
crashing - that was quite probably xorg related.

After updating these I rebooted. X/KDE didn't start of course, so I did
the ./configure, make, sudo make install for openchrome svn 425 again, and
presto, it works!

Now glxinfo says renderer is Mesa DRI and direct rendering is enabled.
Finally. The glxgears achieves ~550fps, quite ok. Just XvMC still missing.

Should anyone on the list have the same problem with CN700, I hope you can
get it working with same xorg 7.3 and mesa 7.01 upgrades!

Cheers,
- Jan
