[Openchrome-users] CX700M2 and DVI

Hello list!

I recently bought a VIA EPIA EX 10000 EG, with a CX700M2, and I was
wondering what the possible alternatives are...

Preferably, I would like to get the DVI port working, but if that is
impossible I will have to settle for the composite out ports. Also, I
would like to get the mpeg2 and mpeg4 decoders working with some media
player (since that is really why I got this device in the first place,
instead of one with more powerful CPU and not so fancy graphics
adapter).

However, I have now realized that I have a set of problems ahead:

1) VIA doesn't distribute binary drivers (except on
http://linux.via.com.tw/support/downloadFiles.action for two platforms
that I don't use).

2) VIA distributes source code that is the most godforsaken piece of
shit I have ever seen. Have they ever compiled open source software
before themselves?????+++?

2.1) I have not (so far only spent some hours on it) been able to
compile their crappy piece of turd infested ass munching code (pardon
my french, but I am awfully annoyed about this). And since their
distribution site (viaarena) is so weird that I'm not sure if I have
the right files, and their build environment is so weird that I don't
know if I'm doing it right, I'm not sure I will ever make it work.

3) openchrome claims to work, apart from mpeg2, mpeg4 and some other
stuff. And as far as I understand also apart from DVI.

3.1) openchrome seems like a serious and well maintained project, so
perhaps these features are on their way or perhaps (though I deem it
unlikely) I will be able to understand the openchrome code well enough
to be able to assist in building these missing features.

4) I have no clue how to make mplayer, xine or vlc (or any other media
player) work with the mpeg2 and mpeg4 decoders, even if I get them to
work.

So, does anyone have any answers to these problems? I am starting to
think that I made a mistake in buying this device, but I am not yet
willing to give up :)

regards,
