 I can confirm that this libv4l-0 plus
     LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype
 *does not* fix the problem.

 Nice catch though.  I had done searches, but they didn't turn this up.
 (Maybe because the fix is new, or mabye I was looking for "flashing" but
 this bug
 fix says "seldomly", which is not at all a description of the effect.)

 Personally, I'm quite willing to encourage corporations to cooperate
 with the FOSS community.  On the other hand, installing cutting-edge
 libraries on my daily work system, I do only with careful consideration.

 You're asking me to spend potentially a lot of time to do something,
 which might take you only minutes to try, but you can't dirty your
 hands with it.  This suggests that you don't value my time.

 Also, these principles of yours seem to be more important to you than the
 good of your project.  That is not encouraging.

 So again, I will be much more willing to try your suggestion, if one of
 you
 guys can confirm that you tried it with more recent libraries, and *don't*
 see the same problem.
