Publicity at http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/12/17/2027250
Available from http://www.ecofont.eu/downloads_en.html

The description text mentions that the font is based on an open-source font.

Digging deeper in the TTF file, we find

«Spranq Eco Sans: version 2.00
Spranq Eco Sans Regular
Version 2.00 SpranqEcoSansRegular
Designed by Spranq on base of the Bitstream Vera font family
Ecofont is designed and developed by Spranq on an idea of Colin
Willems http://www.bitstream.com http://www.spranq.nl
The Ecofont is distributed under GPL (general public licence), free to
use for both business and consumer purposes. The inventive designing
method of the Ecofont - ommitting spaces in each letter to decrease
the black surface of the letter and thus save ink by printing - is
intellectual property of SPRANQ creative communications, Utecht, The
Netherlands. Imitation of this technique is prohibited.Use Ecofont and
save ink!»

Two immediate problems,
1. They do not follow the licensing instructions at http://www.gnome.org/fonts/
2. They relicense the font with the GPL license (instead of keeping
the original license).

I think they need a friendly communication to follow the open-source
license properly.
