I know I sound like a broken record, but I will say this once again.
Before worrying about distinguishing the OFLB from other free font
sites, I think it needs to look like a font site.
The biggest issue I have is and has always been the lack of font
samples. When I open the main page I see a year old piece of "olds". I
don't see anything that makes me want to look deeper. At least a font
image that changes every week (or something) would be better.
When I go to the list of fonts I don't see anything to distinguish one
font from another.
Writing something to provide a font sample isn't hard. I've done it
http://fontforge.sf.net/fontimage.html
is a basic example. When I offered it two years ago no one was
interested, but SOMETHING needs to be done.
When I upload a "screenshot or example" it does not get displayed as
such in the font list -- so what's the point of that option?
