SVG-native fonts also unhinted and lacks a lot of the OpenType
features - they are basically just outlines.  You can, however,
embed, say, a CFF OpenType font in an SVG document (this is real
embedding, the font data is actually in the file).  SVG wasn't
able to specify that at the time because of software patents.

The Adobe SVG viewer supports (supported?) embedded CFF fonts.
