While generally true, many of these displays that do support 12, or 14 
bit LUTs have errors, eg: banding in the grey ramps. Even with an 
expanded LUT, if the display requires that the LUT be monotonically 
increasing, the only way to properly calibrate this out would be to 
fine tune the corrections in the graphics card.

Many of these displays with user adjustable LUTs are adjustable via 
DDC/ci given the proper proprietary protocol.
