Sure, no doubt, it will affect the colors.

But a profile might probably attempt to apply it to black, to make the 
black even darker, and not to apply it to white, in order not to darken 
the white. And that would obviously not the desired usage.

If the driver derives the gloss optimizer channel deterministically 
depending on the values of the other channels, then the profile will 
account for the colorimetric effect anyway.
