[Openicc] questions to colormanagement and cairo

hello list
We had a long discussion, how complex colormanagement for printing often
is.
This is mainly caused by the concept of building a chain:
application->printerdriver->PostScript->PostScript-RIP->devicedriver->printer
As I read about the cairo-project:
-snip-
Cairo provides a stateful user-level API with capabilities similar to
the PDF 1.4 imaging model. Cairo provides operations including stroking
and filling Bezier cubic splines, transforming and compositing
translucent images, and antialiased text rendering.
-snip-
if the imaging model would be really comparable to PDF 1.4, cairo would
be very helpful for doing efficient and transparent colormanagement to
the screen and to the printer.
Reading the documentation, only RGB is described as a valid colorspace,
no CMYK-colorspace or ICC-colormanagement seems to be supported.
So in the field of color, the imaging model is yet not comparable to PDF
1.4
Can anybody on the list gives some informations about the
future-planning for cairo:
- should CMYK-colorspace be supported ?
- should ICC-based colormanagement supported ?
If this would be implemented in cairo, it would be big step for
colormanagement to the monitor and the printer for every application,
which uses cairo.
Greetings
:-) Jan-Peter
