[Openicc] legal issues for open source colormanagement

Dear Mr.Smythe (cc. openicc mailinglist)

Actually there are several open source projects, which make use of
ICC-based colormanagement technology.

A good overview can be found at:
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/OpenIcc

All the important developers can be reached by posting a mail to the
openICC mailinglist
http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/openicc

Actually some projects are beginning to add functionalities which are
enhancing the ICC-specs.
This are e.g. special options for CMYK to CMYK transformations or
special options for gamutmapping.

As an active member of the openICC mailinglist, I have following
question to the ICC:

Is there any possibility, that open source developers can communicate
with the ICC, to prevent legal issues for special colormanagement
functionalities in their applications?

In some cases, the open source projects have a licence which allow the
free usage in commercial projects. So it would may be possible, that
also commercial projects make use of such special
colormanagement-functions, which are a enhancement to the ICC specs.

best regards
:-) Jan-Peter Homann
