This is very good news and very much appreciated. I notice that the
profiles are distributed in RPM format. RPM is not a globally useful
format since it is normally only used by systems which use the Red Hat
Package Manager. While RPM may be installed on many types of systems,
it is not in global use across current Linux systems and does not
address the needs of Sun's Solaris, SGI's IRIX, HP's HP-UX, IBM's AIX,
DEC/Compaq/HP Digital Unix, and the several BSD systems.

There is also the issue that the license supports distribution as part
of a software package and RPM does not serve well for this case.

Is it possible to release the package in a simple portable .tar.gz
format as well?

It appears that software packages are allowed to re-package the
software for distribution, but are not allowed to alter it, so it
needs to be clear what constitutes the software which is not allowed
to be altered. For example, if the package is converted from RPM to
some other form which otherwise preserves the content of the package,
is that supported by the license?
