My understanding is that Robert does not have the measurement hardware needed
to do this. So I don't think he could provide such a service. For printers
this is also highly dependant on the specific paper being used and the
printer settings. Printers also have significant sample to sample variation
and for some printers different batches of ink/toner can have significantly
different characteristics. So I don't think this is a workable solution even
if Robert had the hardware to do this.

In addition the amount of work it would take to measure all of the possible
combinations is huge. I think I want Robert focused on improving his
software rather than spending his time do profiling measurements.

This is sort of the flip side. Once somene has a good set of measurements it
is not difficult to produce profiles. For printers the best solution for
most non-Windows and non-OS/X users is to use a printer profiling service.
These are now fairly inexpensive (around $25) and you end up with a custom
profile that is for your workflow, paper and printer.

I personally think that we should focus on making our software correctly
support using these profiles since it is unrealistic to think that we will
somehow end up with a repository of profiles that would be useful to a wide
range of users. There are just too any things that are specific to each
user for this to work.
