Why do you want to linearize with respect to deltaE and not with
respect to density as in the classical model ?
I quite agree that the a,b values may change indicating a hue shift.
However, I would have thought that the purpose of linearisation is to
ensure that one can achieve the maximal achieveable excursion of the
density in a way such that it is maximally adjustable.
