Not really. OpenEXR could be viewed as a competitor to HD Photo, and  
also it's totally open source which Balmer abhors.

Nevertheless the ICC needs to deal with HDR. And Europe needs to get  
over this recent obsession with L* image encoding, which I think is  
weird. With respect to encoding the article makes a good point. For  
16bpc and 32bpc, encoding is irrelevant and we should keep all of  
that data rather than tossing it, which is what occurs when tone  
mapping.
