 Hopefully this diagram will help.  It's a flow chart of Acrobat/Reader's
rendering pipeline.  It shows where all the color management takes place
both for standard PDF as well as those compliant with various standards.
 There is nothing Adobe-centric here - it is simply how things are defined
to work according to the various specs.
