Hmm. Then by that definition, no-one should have used the ICC profile format,
until it got put up as an ISO standard. But then if no-one had adopted it,
it probably wouldn't have survived or become popular enough to become an ISO standard.
[And a big problem with ISO is that they work against the adoption of their standards
by charging for them, instead of making them freely available. Charging money is
fine if you assume all the users are commercial companies, an assumption that
is faulty in the software world.]

If you use a copy of the Adobe profile. But you don't have to use Adobe's profile
to use the AdobeRGB colorspace. There are other profiles that implement this
space that are freely distributable.
