Experience contradicts this. While there are probably better ways of doing all
this if you are able to wave a magic wand and re-write everything from scratch
from top to bottom without regard to inter-operability, the above approach
has been reasonable successful in the field. The worst aspect is not
user confusion or mis-configuration (since a simple "reset to defaults"
cures a lot of problems), but printer inconsistency and poor quality profiles
tend to be the main source of support queries in relation to color.
(Again, this is mainly in a business use context, rather than low end
  home use or graphics arts use. Graphics arts users tend to want a whole
  lot more technical facilities, which demands a more complex and difficult
  to make reliable interface.)
