I've seen some papers on this sort of approach, but I'm not sure if any of
the experimental work on the ICC covers any of these sorts of possibilities.
Ultimately a regular approach is typically needed for speed once the
lookup is loaded into memory for a CPU.
The main problem with large N is the A2B table though - the B2A
table only increases linearly with the number of channels.
