Okay, so we add:

GROUP_DESKTOP_GNOME
GROUP_DESKTOP_KDE
GROUP_DESKTOP_XFCE
GROUP_DESKTOP_OTHER

and remove GROUP_DESKTOPS.

It needs to be GROUP_DESKTOP (without the plural).

Any volunteers?
