You know me -- if it's not generic API then it's not going in. But, I do
think it's useful to let the distro do cool stuff.

Right, fair point.

A fedora specific updater might be the best idea actually.
gnome-packagekit-experimental or gnome-packagekit-fedora. We could do
some cool stuff in a seporate applet.
