Okay, how would we get this data on foresight, fedora and other distros?

Fedora has this:

$ cat /etc/fedora-release 
Fedora release 8.92 (Rawhide)

So we could get the name and version, and the arch we can get from
uname(struct utsname *buf).

Is there a generic way we can get the distro name and version?
