Hi,

What is the logic behind the order of items listed when you run eg:
gpk-install-mime-type application/x-shockwave-flash

You get:
- VNC screen recorder
     pyvnc2swf-

- Lightweight Media Player
     whaawmp-

- Programs to integrate Flash into the GNOME desktop
     swfdec-gnome-

- GNU flash movie player
     gnash-

- K Desktop Environment 3 - Libraries
     kdelibs3-

- Konqueror flash movie player-plugin
     gnash-klash-

- Multi-platform MPEG, DVD and DivX player
     vlc-

Is this just random ?
It's not in alpha of title nor package name.

How could we improve this to help the user choose an application that
will actually work ?

(my example: pyvnc2swf generates swf files. These can be played by
normal swf players. The included play.py is a simplified swf player that
can only play screen captures made with pyvnc2swf, and in fact it
crashes at the moment if someone tries. Unfortunately, since it is the
top item in the possible applications list, users have been choosing (by
default - ie hitting Install) to install and attempt to play standard
swf files.

I think I could make up a sub mime-type like
application/x-shockwave-flash-vnc2swf. But I understand this would then
not match the actual file extension, and wouldn't be autodetected as by
gpk-install-mime-type.

Any opinions / ideas on a nice way forward ?

David Timms.
