I confess I'm not really sure what you're asking.

I think it's pretty obvious from the commit message why it's being removed from the tree -- because we're going out of our way to remove it from test lists.

Maybe what you're asking is why it was removed from test lists?  I confess I couldn't figure out myself why neither, as message of the commit that disabled just said it was incorrect.  But I really didn't and don't care why it was disabled -- the mere fact it is dead weight is enough to remove.  The git history is there if anybody wants to bring it back to life.
