OK, thanks for the explanations. It was just not completely clear from your
commit message what exactly was happening, now I understand the need for your
patch.

Fortunately these problems seem to be only common on uncommon systems :)
If some systems/compilers are broken, would it be possible to also report bugs
to their maintainers for each of the issues? And have a link to these reports
in pixman commit messages like you did with OpenBSD's broken '__thread'?
