leaving it out doesn't mean that it doesn't exist, just that it isn't part of 
the FD.o platform at this time.

yes, and not because it was a strategic mistake. having a system tray is a 
widely desired and widely used apparatus. the problem is HOW it is 
implemented. 

i definitely want to see a system tray spec go into the FD.o platform 
eventually, but not the current one since that would saddle us with that 
implementation for a good long time.
