Can a script theme interact with sysfs?

Hello everyone,
     I have a character display with a custom driver module, and I was 
hoping to write a plymouth theme that displays status text, and a 
progress bar on the screen. My module maps the display ram of the module 
to a binary attribute in sysfs. Can I read/write sysfs files from the 
plymouth scripting interface?
