I say go for autotooling the project. 

I'd also like to see FreeBSD and Solaris support in pm-utils so we can
keep the hal bits nice and simple. I'm pretty sure they will need all
the same workarounds at least on x86 hardware (since they use X.org too)
and the synergy from doing this will most probably benefit Linux distros
too. If anything, it will get people together and help figure out what
are driver bugs and what's not.

Artem, Joe, pjones: What do you think about this?
