[Pm-utils] radeontool turns off backlight but pm-suspend doesn't

Hi,
I tried to find the right quirks for my Thinkpad A31 to suspend correctly with the latest Fedora7 LiveCD. With no quirks it suspends, and sometimes on wake-up the screen is fine, and sometimes it is garbled. I'm not sure what if any rule there is. I tried various options, and I'm not sure if they make a difference, I have to play more - since sometimes it works anyway. Every single time, and with all tried options, the text display right after resume and before it returns to Xwindows has a few weird characters in random places and colors, but mostly the couple of lines of text on resume are fine. The graphics in Xwin (when it does come back non-garbled) is fine.
However, the backlight never turns off during suspend, either without flags, or when using --quirk-radeon-off, or --quirk-dpms-re. , or both of those flags. I also tried adding s3-mode, s3-bios, vga-mode3, etc. though I didn't try all possible combinations.
On the other hand, "radeontool light off" does turn off the backlight.
Is this supposed to be so? (i.e. should pm-suspend be able to turn off the ATI Radeon Mobility 7500's backlight, or am I supposed to make a script with radeontool called before and after suspend?)
Thanks,
Milos
