That's indeed a feature that would be useful (so s2ram could play well
with tuxonice)
Also pm-utils does not use the hal-info

The same is true for s2ram. It doesn't actively query hal. It also
relies on being passed the correct parameters. (as it still has a
builtin whitelist, it can use that as fallback though). That's how
it's currently implemented in Debian pm-utils.
